Pepperoni Pizza Recipe: The All-Time American Classic

Description
Pepperoni pizza is an iconic American dish that has become one of the most popular pizza varieties around the world. While pizza has roots in Italy, pepperoni pizza has earned its place as a staple in pizzerias across the United States. Pepperoni, a spicy, cured sausage, is typically added in generous amounts on top of the pizza, creating a deliciously smoky and tangy flavor. Whether enjoyed at a family gathering, as a quick dinner, or during a sports event, pepperoni pizza is a go-to comfort food that never disappoints.

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce (preferably marinara sauce)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni (about 20-25 slices)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Process

  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). If you’re using a pizza stone, allow it to preheat for 20 minutes.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface until it’s your preferred thickness, then transfer it to a baking sheet or pizza stone.
  3. Spread the tomato sauce evenly across the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
  5. Arrange the pepperoni slices over the cheese, covering the entire pizza.
  6. Sprinkle dried oregano and red pepper flakes (if using) on top of the pizza. Add salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  7. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  8. Remove the pizza from the oven, drizzle with olive oil, and slice it up.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy this delicious, cheesy, and spicy treat!
